Historic Graveyards - October Dataset of the Month

Posted by Dominic Byrne on Fri, 20 Dec 2013 10:49:39 GMT

We are going to try out a new Dataset of the Month feature on Fingal Open Data, where each month here on the Blog we will showcase a dataset that's available on Fingal Open Data and highlight examples of how it is being used.

Seeing as it's Halloween, our first dataset of the month is the newly published Historic Graveyards

Background

This dataset was created as part of the Fingal Historic Graveyards Project - the results of which can be found in the project report at -

Fingal Historic Graveyard Introduction.pdf

Fingal Historic Graveyard Database & Sample Photos.pdf

We have uploaded this dataset in addition to the existing Burial Grounds dataset.  We will examine these two datasets to see if they should be merged or are better kept separate.

The coordinates in the Historic Graveyards dataset is in Irish National Grid format.  We will convert these to Lat Long coordinates in the coming weeks and also make the dataset available in KML format

Update - we have now converted this dataset to Lat Long and published in XML and KML also.

Examples of Reuse

The data in the previously published Burial Grounds dataset has been used in the Historic Graves website.
