Discover Fingal is Overall Winner at Apps4Fingal Competition.
A tourism app, Discover Fingal, that helps visitors navigate local attractions picking up loyalty points along the way, has been voted the overall winner in Fingal County Council’s Apps4Fingal competition at a ceremony in Swords this evening hosted by Mayor of Fingal, Cllr. Gerry McGuire. It was also the winner in the Tourism Category of the competition scooping a combined total of €5,000 in prize money as well as the coveted Apps4Fingal Overall Winner trophy.

Other winners of the combined prize fund of €11,500 include -
- Fingal Traffic View, a traffic app combining live traffic cameras, traffic tweets, parking info and speed trap locations which won the Community Category and a prize of €2,500.
- mypp.ie, an app that shows detailed planning applications on an interactive map which won the Enterprise category and and a prize of €2,500.
- Fingal Day Tripper, an app that plans a day out for visitors to Fingal which won the Student category and a prize of €500.
- Fingal Deals, an idea to create an app that listed all deals available from local businesses in any part of the County won the Ideas award and a prize of €500.

Apps4Fingal Awards Ceremony.
The Apps4Fingal Awards Ceremony will take place on Thursday 22nd March in Fingal County Hall, Swords.
Apps that were created for the competition will be showcased at the event.
Mayor of Fingal, Cllr. Gerry McGuire will present the awards to the winners in the various categories - Community, Enterprise, Tourism, Student, Ideas - and will announce the winner of the Overall Award.

Shortlisting of Apps4Fingal entries completed.
The Apps4Fingal judges met on 1st February to evaluate the entries to the competition.
The judges were very impressed with the excellent standard of entries received and have decided to shortlist the following entries under the various prize categories -

An Awards ceremony will take place to showcase competition entries, highlight the shortlisted entries and announce the winners - we will confirm the date, time and venue shortly.

The apps4fingal competition is now closed.
Thanks to all who entered the competition. We received 23 Apps entries and 36 Ideas entries and we are very pleased with this response.
The breakdown of entries received for the various competition categories is as follows -
- Community - 14 entries
- Enterprise - 6 entries
- Tourism - 11 entries
- Student - 4 entries
- Ideas - 36 entries
We have published the Apps entries and the Ideas entries to the site - have a look and see the great Apps and Ideas that entrants have come up with using data from Fingal Open Data.
We are now moving on to the judging stage of the competition.
The judges will meet on 1st February to evaluate the Apps4Fingal entries.
The Award ceremony for Apps4Fingal is currently being organised at which the winners will be announced. We are finalising arrangements and expect it to be held in mid to late February.

apps4fingal is a competition for developers to create mobile and/or online apps based on Fingal Open Data.
apps4fingal also incorporates an ideas prize open to all.
Note The purpose of the Ideas category is to enable non-developers to suggest ideas that could be developed as an App - entries will therefore be published on this site when submitted.
